Save Our Clubs Releases Victoria University of Wellington Club Funding Data

Save Our Clubs has today published a new unofficial database showing club, society, and group funding grants at Te Herenga Waka, Victoria University of Wellington.

The database brings club funding records together in one searchable place, allowing students to see which clubs received support, what activities were funded, what recommendations were made, and how much funding was approved.

A portion of the Student Services Levy paid by students is used to support clubs and student activities. Save Our Clubs says student fee-payers deserve clear and accessible information about how that money is allocated.

“Students pay into the system, so students should be able to see how club funding is being distributed,” Save Our Clubs spokesperson Arie Joe said. “This database is about transparency. It makes it easier for students, clubs, and the wider university community to understand where funding has gone and what kinds of activities have been supported.”

The published records include applicant type, club name, event or activity, recommended funding, recommendation, and final amount approved. The database does not claim to capture every piece of context behind each decision. Some applications may have involved updated budgets, supporting documents, or further information that is not visible in the summary data.

Save Our Clubs says the database is intended as a public-interest resource, not an official University publication.

“Clubs are a vital part of campus life,” Arie Joe said. “They help students build communities, run events, develop skills, and create opportunities outside the classroom. If student money is being used to support that work, the information should be easy to find and easy to understand.”

Save Our Clubs will continue working to improve transparency, protect student-led clubs, and ensure the voices of students and clubs are heard in decisions affecting campus life.
