Joint Student Union Board minutes 2 May 2023

David Cuthbert welcomed everyone to the meeting.

2. Matters Arising

• VUWSA proposal regarding Clubs

Jessica advised that Simon Johnson, Acting Chief Operating Officer (COO), had seen the Clubs proposal and was comfortable with it and ask for it to be brought back to him. Rainsforth advised that the JSUB structure did not report to The University Senior Leadership Team (SLT) nor did SLT have any say in the decisions that JSUB make. It is a unique set of documents of a historical nature that essentially makes JSUB a committee of Council. Rainsforth said she would follow up with Simon, since she was not advised that had he been consulted and to also clarify with him the COO’s role in the proposal around Clubs and Societies.

Nik and Kirsty also advised of their understanding and history behind the JSUB set up. After some discussion it was agreed that Acting Legal Counsel would come to our next meeting (15 May 2023) and give an overview of the history of the Joint Student Union Board and the drafting of the Deed and Operating Agreement to all the Board.

VUWSA questioned how JSUB/ACSSL work and interacted, it would be good to have that sorted going forward. Kirsty was very supportive of VUWSA pushing for that along with her area and others. A proposal was made a few years ago and it was declined by the Provost. It could be a good time to try again now.
